Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2011 - Sabyasachi Mukherjee

Sabyasachi's Summer Resort 2011 collection is a defining moment for pret in Indian fashion. Like a seasoned dressmaker and visionaire, Sabya used his trademark weaves of handlooms, cottons and jute gunny fabrics, skillfully fashioning it into easy going relaxed Western wear, the result was breathable and dressy instead of sloppy shlumpadinka. Call his muse geek chic or the unpretentious, all-knowing, gypsy intellectual, Sabyasachi has this knack of making women feel comfortable in their own skin; comfortable in being themselves. She may not be a perfectly coiffed and manicured, polished sophisticate-fashionista, but she arouses interest with her fairly simple, rustic, ethnic native charm. Sabyasachi makes nativity and vernacularity; embracing one's roots seem charmant de riguer.

The voluminous bubble-like colour blocked full skirts and maxis seems inspired by Luis Vuitton's Fall Winter 2010 and Jil Sander's Spring Summer 2011 collection pieces respectively. One can also detect traces of inspiration from one of his favourite designers, Dries Van Noten. The peter pan circular horizontal broad stripes is very reminiscent of classic Herve Leger circa 1993. A bambi nymphet stockinged in a ballet dress fitted right in with a damsel in a kitschy faux saree gunny bag apron skirt. An executive might choose to wear a no-nonsense expertly crafted Sabya maxi, while the office professional would be tempted to turn up to work in a Sabya midi. Sabyasachi offers innumerable dressing options and separates to all kinds of women, he lures with his scintillating floral prints and excites with his 'O it's so Parisian street chic' styling. The humble boy genius maestro has added another feather to his cap as his stock, fame and fan following continues to grow by leaps and bounds.
