Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2011 - Sabbah Sharma

Stained glass graphics, embellished fruit motifs, geometrical patterns and cut-outs were some of the highlights of Sabbah Sharma's wispy and crafty 2011 summer resort line. Silhouettes ranged from sharp and textural to fluid, the inspiration was literal, the designer displayed her creativity but also integrated wearability. Some of the colours were a tad too strong, like the dark royal blue blouse with a circular cut-out pattern in the center paired with matching pants with bondage straps running from the knee to the hem. The designer probably wanted the contrast white on the blouse to stand out against the dark blue, which wasn't all that complimentary and makes you wish she had given a little more thought to her palate. It's the same with the yellow maxi kaftan, that shade of yellow was dense, and the outfit a little plain, that merely putting a statement necklace on didn't help. And then there's the show stopper mullet dress that came in the end, the clump of georgette attached from the back was unnecessary, the designer could have just sent out a spiffy mini dress. Discounting that, Sabbah Sharma's stamped her signature in a way that would make her clothes identifiable from a mile. This is one of the strongest collections to come out of Lakme in terms of idea and craft. Let's hope she surpasses her current level of creativity for future collections to come. On a side note, the dress with the embroidered polygon pattern motifs make me want to scream Brazil!
