Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2011 - Jatin Varma

Delicious and drool worthy, Jatin Varma's collection 'Gelato' was just that, sorbet colours in mango, litchi and raspberry melon, can't figure out what flavour the blue would be? Blue Curacao? No, that's a cocktail. Luscious ice cream swirls were draped and gathered, sometimes bound into rosettes over cocktail dresses long and short. Did it work? Sure it did for the most part, it's the bunching up of fabric on the chest, that would be a cause for concern for some women, unless the wearer is flat chested or somehow manages to carry it off. Some of the dresses would have looked better in Fall's current fascination for jewel tones, the drape folds would emerge much richer.

Designer Anand Bhushan used gelato colours in his last collection, those mint and butter creme shades were cooling to the eye, or maybe it's the linen? Silk and taffeta dresses for summer may work as evening wear, but designer Jatin Varma could have also offered lighter, more fluid options in chiffon or glossy voiles. Afterall, sorbets are runny! Imagine the blue petite fleur gown, if it had chiffon worked into it instead of the crushed taffeta skirt bottom, the result would be a lot more delicate and sensuous.
